We do not try to be like him. Instead, we walk with him daily and continue to be “in him,” in our intimate, loving relationship with him. As we continue to develop and grow deeper in this “transforming friendship” with the Lord, our lives will be changed and transformed more and more into his likeness, by the power and the presence of the Holy Spirit (2 Cor. 3:18)…..We cannot become more like Jesus by self-effort or sheer imitation of Christ. We will fail. But we can follow another WWJD: Walking With Jesus Daily. We can, with the help and empowering of the Holy Spirit, walk with Jesus daily by spending time with him in prayer, Bible reading and meditation, worship, solitude and silence, and other spiritual disciplines. As we abide or remain in him in the sweet communion of his transforming friendship, he will change us and mold us to become more like him. It is the Holy Spirit who will transform us, conforming us into the image of Christ (Rom. 8:29), or forming Christ in us (Gal. 4:19).
