Silence and solitude both work in hidden ways, resembling the work that goes on during the winter. In the cold months, it appears nothing is going on. Animals hibernate. Nothing grows. Everything is still and at rest. But in the important sleep of winter, life renews itself. In silence and solitude, God works in ways that are hidden, but nevertheles vital to life…….We create a space in which the spiritual characteristics of Christ can grow within us. And out of this growing, transforming spirit, we begin responding to life rather than reacting to it. From our quiet time apart we gain inner silence, and that frees us from the world. It equips us to grow as the person God is forming us to be.
