English: In the center panel, which is subdivided into three sections, the Blessed Virgin with the Christ Child is watched over by a guardian angel while children offer gifts. In the left section, Jesus is shown as a young boy working in his father’s carpenter’s shop and in the right section he is playing in a field. A butterfly—symbolizing the Resurrection—has alighted on his hand. The little Scottie, Angus, belonged to the Rev. Harold F. Hohly, the fourth rector of Christ Church. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

In addition to wishing everyone a blessed and happy New Year, I thought it might be appropriate to offer a declarative, affirmative, proactive prayer —one which calls forth blessings in 2013. I no longer make resolutions but instead, make positive declarations, filled with faith. In this spirit, I offer the following and encourage each of you to speak these positive words over your life this day:

Today is indeed the first day of a blessed New Year,

and today is also the first day of the rest of my life.

I affirm that this year, 2013, will be a year of resurrection, renewal, and restoration and I greet this year with enthusiasm, confidence, and passion.

This confident passion arises from my acceptance that in Christ I am a new creation, and that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Today I know that the old is passing away and that the new has been born. I am a being of light, love, and Spirit, commited to spiritual growth, service to others, and to becoming the optimal version of myself.

Today I passionately declare that through the power of the blessed Spirit I am forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead. I press forward into this new year toward the goal and the prize of the upward call of God in Christ.

In the name of Christ,
